Office365 ProPlus: Reduced Functionality Mode

This article has not been updated recently and may contain dated material.

Reduced Functionality Mode

What can be expected from Reduced Functionality Mode?

In reduced functionality mode, the user can only view and print documents, but cannot create any new documents or edit any of the existing documents.

What causes Reduced Functionality Mode?

In order to activate Office 365, the user must have a key and an internet connection. During installation, Office 365 ProPlus communicates with the Office Licensing Service and the Activation and Validation Service in order to activate the key every time the user logs on. If the user does not connect for 30 consecutive days or more, the program will enter reduced functionality mode.

How to restore Full Functionality to the Program?

In order to return full functionality, the user must connect to the internet to allow the license to be checked by the Activation and Validation Service. Once this is verified, full functionality is returned to the programs.
